The Platform of development organisations – Ambrela brings together 29 mostly non-governmental organisations in Slovakia that focus on humanitarian aid, development cooperation and global education both at home and abroad. The Ambrela secretariat is not directly active in the field, but fulfils an advocacy role in support of its members and observers (for example, by improving the conditions for their work through feedback on public policies under the scope of MZVaEZ SR, MŠVVaŠ SR and similar bodies), builds their capacities through appropriate training activities and informs the public about our shared mission to improve the lives and living conditions of people in need around the world.
This year Ambrela is concluding a three-year project ‘Global Goals and Migration’, supported by the EU through the DEAR programme, and within it also the awareness campaign ‘Faces of Migration’. Its goal is to broaden Slovaks’ and Slovak women’s awareness of the causes and forms of migration (especially forced migration) through the lens of international development, and to explain to our population through the stories of specific people from abroad what people fleeing war experience and why they should be helped. A few months ago, few people suspected that we would all have such a thing before our eyes this spring because of the war with our eastern neighbour. In the very first week after the invasion, hundreds of thousands of people from Ukraine crossed the Slovak border, so the topic of asylum cannot be avoided—children and young people at home and at school ask about it—so not only the media, the relevant ministries, but also our NGOs must respond with appropriate content (leaflets, infographics, articles, discussions, webinars). The best way is through mutual communication and coordinated cooperation.
Ambrela publicly addresses and covers the sensitive but important topic of migration and international development, which for several years, not only before elections, has become a favourite source of hoaxes, disinformation and propaganda on social networks from extremist political groups aiming to manipulate emotions and voters, both women and men. This ‘media kit’ is intended to familiarise media professionals, as well as communication managers and communication managers in partner organisations, with the activities, outputs and possible successes of the above-mentioned three-year Ambrela project and the awareness campaign Faces of Migration. More information for download and reading is available in the media kit itself here: https://tvaremigracie.ambrela.org/novinky/media-kit-ambrely-k-sdgs-a-migracii/
Note: The project ‘SDGs and Migration – Multipliers and Journalists Addressing Decision Makers and Citizens in the EU’ is funded by the European Union programme for education and awareness-raising (DEAR). Ambrela bears sole responsibility for the content, and it does not necessarily reflect the views of the European Union. The production of the media kit was co-financed as well from resources of the Slovak Republic under the SlovakAid brand.
