The monograph published in 2022 describes the current needs of young people. It also contains a chapter in which the author describes individual generations. This perspective brings new insights into working with children, especially in identifying children’s needs. An important topic is also the current education system. One of the most important points on which the current school system should focus is supporting a child in subjects and activities in which they have a gift.

The monograph by Mgr. Roland Sivok describes the current needs of young people. In the monograph, there is a very valuable and exceptional chapter in which the author describes the individual generations. Such a perspective is unconventional and brings new insights into the field of working with children, especially in identifying children’s needs. The research part, in which the author presents the problems and needs of contemporary youth, also has scientific quality, especially in the sections where the author deals with the lack of employment opportunities and the lack of leisure and social events. At the same time, I perceive the uniqueness of this monograph not only in identifying children’s social needs but also in the detailed description of problems and ways of solving them. Some solutions seek to motivate and activate children and youth in meeting social needs. In the monograph, I also consider it important that the author, in terms of methodology, focused on one region in which he conducts research. In the research, he focuses on current problems of children and youth. In terms of needs, the author strives for a holistic view.

The author of the scholarly monograph focused not only on theoretical knowledge about the needs of children and youth today but also on the empirical part, which brings many new and interesting stimulus questions for discussion and impulses leading to solutions to problems that arise among children and youth. In the era in which we live, new needs of children and youth are constantly emerging, and it is necessary not only to notice them but also to approach them sensitively and try to focus on solving them. The current time also shows the necessity of using the internet, and the resulting need to know how to work with social networks as well. The author in his work also focused on addressing this need in children and youth, in which questions arise for us about whether parents know what their child is doing online. Another need that the author included in his scholarly monograph is the relationship between parent and child and their mutual open communication. It is essential that not only parents but also professionals who dedicate their work to child- and youth-related issues be educated in attachment theories. An important topic to which the author focused in his work is also the current education system. One of the most important points on which the current school system should focus is supporting the child in subjects and activities in which they have talent. I positively evaluate that in the empirical part the author focused on the needs of children and youth in a specific region, namely the city of Rimavská Sobota, which has long been labeled as a city with insufficient job opportunities and high unemployment. In this chapter, the author presents thought-provoking and high-quality results of his work, which can be used as guidance for further implementation of professional research and later applied to improve conditions in that city. The author sufficiently addressed this issue in his work, focusing on the needs of children and youth, which are currently the most pressing to address. I evaluate the scholarly monograph as valuable and usable not only for students of the humanities and professionals dealing with the needs of children and youth but also for the general public.
