We are following very closely the unpredictable situation in the former program country of the Slovak Republic's Official Development Cooperation (ODA) - Afghanistan, and we appreciate the help that Slovakia has decided to offer. Several Slovak non-governmental organizations, dedicated to the topic of migration and integration (Mareena, League for Human Rights), asked the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic to consider extending assistance to other people who turned to them. In this difficult and life-threatening situation, Slovakia should consider providing immediate assistance to a larger group of needy people in danger.
Our country has long-term and positive experience with the people there, a small number of them were granted international protection in the past, while later they became a great benefit for the Slovak Republic. Therefore, as a high-income democratic republic, we would probably be able to accept more than just 10 people (and thus protect human lives from the approaching snares of the regime by the Taliban movement). We believe that sending a plane from Slovakia is only the beginning. And that we will show solidarity and offer a helping hand, as in the past within the ODA projects of our members.
"In the period 2009-2019, Slovak organizations under the SlovakAid brand carried out a development intervention in Afghanistan in the amount of 7 million euros. During that time, hundreds of girls, women, but also local farmers and others were helped in accessing education and work opportunities and opportunities. It is now our duty to help those who have placed their hopes in cooperation with the West, and whose lives are now in serious jeopardy as a result of the regime change threatened," concludes Umbrella's executive secretary, Daniel Kaba.
The advocacy goal of the umbrella platform of 28 Slovak development organizations is, first of all, to accelerate the sending of a government special to Kabul and also to increase the number of asylums granted to Afghan people forced to flee their homeland.
