In the second half of November, thanks to discussions and other events within the framework of the Global Education Week in Slovakia, you will learn from the workshop of the Umbrella platform what similarities can be seen between the polarization of society in Slovakia, the wars in the Balkans and Russian aggression in Ukraine. At the same time, the discussants will offer participants insight into the soul of society and ways to bridge barriers and bring people closer to each other despite global crises and growing differences.
The platform of development organizations - Umbrella, together with its members and observers, implements in Slovakia in the period 11.-29. November, a series of educational and awareness-raising events under the name Global Education Week (GLW). The executive secretary of the Umbrella platform, Daniel Kaba, indicates the main theme of TGV in Slovakia: "In times when data and statistics cannot capture the whole story of our society, we invite you to a series of events that go beyond the boundaries of numbers and facts. Together, we will look into the deeper layers of our collective experience - where trust and fear, solidarity and polarization are born - into the soul of society."
At the same time, Daniel Kaba from TGV's rich offer draws attention to the events at which he is curious about the progress and reactions of the public: "During the discussion with the former investigator of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, those present will learn what similarities can be seen between the polarization of society in Slovakia, the wars in the Balkans and Russian aggression in Ukraine. In the next discussion, we will focus together on the psychological impact and impact of international events (including the results of the elections in the USA or the negative impacts of the climate crisis) on us and our feelings, attitudes, insecurities and actions. The members and observers of our Umbrella have indeed mixed a stimulating mix of burning topics and global challenges, which they have expertly translated into the November offer of educational events. It is worth participating in them personally."
The TGV program in the Slovak Republic is rich in public discussions on building solidarity and the influence of foreign news on our actions, a round table for experts at the GV on the future of the teaching profession, workshops on forgotten humanitarian crises for schools or companies, a webinar and screenings of films about development projects in low-income countries of the world, as well as a traveling exhibition on fair trade, and much more with the aim of bridging barriers and bringing people closer to each other despite the current global crises and growing differences.
The Global Education Week (GEW) is annually implemented by the North-South Center of the Council of Europe in the second half of November and is organized in individual countries by national development platforms involved in the Global Education Network. The Platform of Development Organizations - Umbrella, together with its members and observers active in the field of global education (GV), is fully involved in its implementation in Slovakia. All types of schools, professionals and the general public, as well as private companies, can participate in the November TGV activities. The Platform of Development Organizations - Ambrela is an umbrella organization of 30 mostly non-governmental organizations in Slovakia that are dedicated to development cooperation, humanitarian aid, sustainable development at home and/or abroad, half of which are dedicated to global education. Umbrella actively represents the common interests of its members and observers at home and abroad, in addition to advocacy and capacity building, it is also dedicated to public awareness (increasing awareness of ODA - the Slovak Republic's official development aid in the world). Its goal is: to be a direct participant and actor in the field of development cooperation and foreign policy of the Slovak Republic, the EU and other institutions aimed at sustainable development in less developed countries and/or Slovakia; to contribute to the formation of the awareness of people in the Slovak Republic to solidarity and mutual aid, and thus contribute to solving the problem of poverty, lack of freedom and humanitarian crises in the world. Umbrella's flagship events are the Umbrella Development Forum (ADF) and the Global Education Week (TGV).
