The increasing social problems of the inhabitants create a constant need to improve the quality of some social work activities. One of the ways to participate in the solution of these problems is to learn how to prevent them, or if they are already present, to prevent their further deepening or to prevent their recurrence, through consistent organized and targeted prevention. When solving social problems, we can talk specifically about social prevention. The monograph of the collective of authors under the title "Social prevention" is a small contribution on how to grasp some theoretical starting points and how to learn to better understand some problem areas that are closely related to the application of social prevention. The authors are pleased with the stimulus, but also with critical considerations that will inspire a deeper elaboration of this issue. The authors welcome a discussion not only from the ranks of university teachers and experts from practice, but also from students helping professions, to which it is mainly intended.

One of the ways to participate in the solution of these problems is to learn how to prevent them, or if they are already present, to prevent their further deepening or to prevent their recurrence, through consistent organized and targeted prevention. When solving social problems, we can talk specifically about social prevention. The publication under the title "Social prevention" is only a small contribution to grasping some theoretical starting points and how to learn to better understand some problem areas that are closely related to the application of social prevention. The content of the texts was not created simply, since there are few sources on the issue of prevention, just as there are very few specific studies in the professional literature. We found that most authors often combine prevention with social prevention, especially in the prevention of socio-pathological phenomena (criminality or drug addiction). Officially, social prevention was defined in Act no. 195/1998 Coll. on social assistance currently in Act no. 448/2008 Coll. on social services, especially the implementation of social services exhaustively listed in §12, naturally without a closer description of some contexts (for example, naming the bearers of activities in social prevention, areas of social prevention, methods of social prevention, etc.). The content and arrangement of the structure of the publication was the subject of discussion not only by the authors themselves, but also by other experts from several universities and state organizations. In it, the authors came to the belief that the content of this publication must primarily be a more detailed definition of social prevention, the characteristics of its participants and a description of the subjects participating in the implementation of social prevention. For a comprehensive view of the issue of social prevention, we considered it natural to also name the areas in which social prevention can be applied. Knowledge of these areas is an important prerequisite for the successful application of social prevention in practice. This publication also includes an outline of individual methods of social prevention at the level of their use when working with individuals, groups and communities. The aim of the presented publication is to provide students with enough information that they inevitably need to obtain when studying some specific study subjects such as social prevention but also social pathology and social counseling. The authors will be pleased with the stimulus, but also with the critical considerations that will be inspiring for a deeper elaboration of this issue.
