Teaching Russian Literature in Slovak Schools: a Snapshot of the Present

The structure and content of the paper consist of diagnosing the current situation in the field of teaching Russian literature in Slovak schools, analyzing percentage data with regard to the representation of literature-oriented tasks in textbooks, and interpreting findings from dialogue with selected teachers of Slovak and Russian language at primary schools, state gymnasiums, and a bilingual gymnasium. We will seek to clarify the position of Russian literature in pedagogical documents within the current educational system in Slovakia and also in studies of literary scholars and teachers, with whom we will compare the current situation. In the first chapter we will sketch the current state of teaching the Russian language and literature and partly also the general aspect of teaching foreign literature in Slovak schools. The second chapter of the paper discusses concrete findings from the research and their interpretation.
