Pavol Markovič Date of photographs: May, June, July 2013 Nature of aid/cooperation: Educational activities focused on computer literacy, support for improving the collection, processing, and analysis of hospital patient data Project significance: The Slovak development volunteer (IT expert) contributes to capacity building and skill development in information technology for the needs of the local partner (Kwale district hospital), as well as for the needs of TU's existing development project: “Social and health care for malnourished children under the age of 5 and their mothers in the Kwale region,” through participation in specialist lectures aimed at increasing general awareness in the field of IT. This primarily concerns increasing computer literacy (working with MS Office / OpenOffice), but also informing staff about new media, data security, mass communication, and fundraising for hospital employees and especially health community workers working on the TU project (who do not have such skills). By increasing computer literacy and skills, this also helps to make the collection, processing, and analysis of patient data from the Kwale hospital more efficient. Finally, the presence of a development volunteer (IT and multimedia expert) also increases (during and after the project) public awareness of Slovak development cooperation in Kenya.
