Members of the Crisis Intervention Team (KIT) of ADRA Slovakia entered 2019 with a resolution: to continue speaking out loudly about violence, to organize more awareness-raising activities and educational events for various target groups in the Slovak Republic. The very first such discussion will take place on Wednesday (January 16) from 6 p.m. at the UNIK community center on Ferienčíková Street 5 in Bratislava under the title “How to Identify a Manipulator in a Relationship”.
The KIT members know that in addition to crisis intervention, social rehabilitation and adaptation of clients and clients, and advocacy, prevention is also important. The first discussion is therefore thematically directed primarily at young people who are in the process of falling in love, building a relationship, and do not recognize the warning signs that they may have found themselves in an abusive relationship.
Such stories are on the rise (not only on the silver screen): At the beginning of the relationship, he was funny, and she was completely in love with him. But suddenly she does not understand his behavior. He increasingly has jealous outbursts, forbids her to meet friends, monitors her mobile communication, raises his voice, during an argument he makes himself the victim and corners her, while lying behind her back himself. Maybe one slap has already happened. But only once. And she blames herself and excuses his behavior before others and before herself… How can that end after a few years of living together? A scenario retold as if copied word for word in every third woman in the world and in Slovakia. That is not okay.
The KIT experts will therefore help young people during the January discussion at KC UNIK recognize the signs of manipulation in a relationship, and will also outline how such situations and abusive relationships can be addressed and prevented. Those present will also learn what to do if they have witnessed domestic or sexual violence in their surroundings. Our experts from the Crisis Intervention Team will patiently answer all questions from the audience: Daniela Borzová (lawyer) and Lucia Klimáčková (psychologist).
