If you are already looking for a suitable book gift for your little ones, a visit to the Slovak National Gallery on November 5th might have been just the thing. Author Kristína Baluchová held a book launch there for her twelfth book, 'Hotdog and Magical Christmas', illustrated by Hedviga M. Gutierrez. It was launched in a gingerbread-style ceremony – with gingerbread cookies and good deeds.
The fact that Christmas preparations are in full swing from the beginning of November is evidenced not only by the ubiquitous tones of Mariah Carey's song 'All I Want For Christmas is You', but also by bookshops decorated with books themed around these winter holidays of peace and love. Soon, the children's book by author Kristína Baluchová titled 'Hotdog and Magical Christmas' will also appear in their shop windows. It will be launched this Saturday.
The story of this Christmas fairy tale takes place in the apartment of an extraordinary family in the middle of a seemingly ordinary Bratislava housing estate. Siblings Hanka, Hugo, and their eternally barking dachshund Hotdog will convince you that you do not need to go far for miracles. You just need to do a good deed and not leave anyone alone, on the sidelines. Especially not at Christmas.
If you want to learn more about the tried-and-true recipe for a magical Christmas, come to the Slovak National Gallery (Kornel and Nada Földvári Library) on November 5th at 11:00 AM for the book launch of 'Hotdog and Magical Christmas'. The godparents of Kristína Baluchová's latest work, originally illustrated by artist and trusted collaborator Hedviga M. Gutierrez, are two literarily accomplished personalities. The bookish "hotdog" will be christened with gingerbread cookies and good deeds by: bookseller Martina Šateková from ExLibris at the SNG and publicist Štefan Chrappa. The event will be accompanied by an author reading by writer Kristína Baluchová and a creative workshop for children directed by illustrator Hedviga M. Gutierrez.
Kristína Baluchová has a wealth of interesting professions behind her and draws on her experiences (along with experiences from raising her daughters Vilmuška and Jasmínka) in writing books – currently especially those for a children's audience. She has twelve books to her name, two of which were created in collaboration with the talented Hedka M. Gutierrez. Over the past five years, she has completed more than one hundred author readings, discussions, and reading literacy workshops in libraries and schools throughout Slovakia. With young readers, she strives to spark curiosity and a desire for new information, while also motivating them to read and to do good in their surroundings.
