Živena, the Association of Slovak Women, is seeking personalities for nomination for the Elena Maróthy Šoltésová Medal award, for those who have dedicated a large part of their lives to social work and health education. The journal ProHuman is the media partner for presenting this significant award in 2022.

Živena, the Association of Slovak Women, and the Faculty of Health Sciences and Social Work of Trnava University will present the Elena Maróthy Šoltésová Medal for the second time this year (the first was presented in 2021) to a personality who has devoted a large part of their life to social work (to people threatened by poverty and social exclusion; victims of domestic violence; homeless persons; or health education), despite the fact that their professional focus may not have been in the social or healthcare field.

We believe that within the scope of your work you certainly know several personalities who would deserve such an award for their tremendously meritorious work. A nomination of a laureate with a name and a brief description of their activities in the social field, who works anywhere within the territory of the entire Slovak Republic, may be submitted by a natural or legal person to the email or postal address of the Živena Local Branch in Bratislava: bratislava.zivena@gmail.com; or by post: Local Branch Živena Bratislava, Kutlíkova 3, 851 02 Bratislava, by the deadline of 15 February 2022. The number of nominations is not limited.

The award includes a medal with a portrait of Elena Maróthy Šoltésová, created by the artist Milan Ormandík.

The organizers will announce the laureate on the occasion of World Social Work Day (provided the pandemic situation permits at that time, otherwise at an alternative date).

1. Organizers of the Award
The Elena Maróthy Šoltésová Medal is jointly awarded by Živena, the Association of Slovak Women, and the Faculty of Health Sciences and Social Work of Trnava University.

2. Characterization of the Award
The award is given primarily to persons who have devoted a large part of their lives to social work — to people threatened by poverty and social exclusion, victims of domestic violence, homeless persons, as well as health education — despite the fact that their professional focus may not have been in the social or healthcare field.

3. Nominations
Nominations may be submitted by natural or legal persons to the designated email address of Živena, the Association of Slovak Women, from January of a calendar year until 15 February of the same year. The number of nominations is not limited. The names of nominees are not disclosed in advance.

4. Medal Awarding Committee
The Committee for Awarding the Elena Maróthy Šoltésová Medals consists of 5 members, comprising two representatives of the Faculty of Health Sciences and Social Work of Trnava University (prof. MUDr. Jaroslav Slaný, CSc. — Dean of FHSaSW TU, and Mgr. Michaela Hromková, PhD. — academic assistant at FHSaSW TU) and two representatives of Živena, the Association of Slovak Women (Mgr. Magda Vášáryová, Chairwoman of Živena Association, and PhDr. Alena Bučeková, Chairwoman of Živena Bratislava Local Branch). The fifth member of the committee is PhDr. Mária Mattovič Straková, MPH, expert in quality management in social services.

5. Selection of Laureates
From the nominees, Živena, the Association of Slovak Women, and the Faculty of Health Sciences and Social Work of Trnava University each select one laureate. When voting on the laureate, there must be consensus. If a laureate declines the award, the committee will reconvene and decide whether to present the award to another candidate.

6. The Award
The award includes a medal (created by the artist Milan Ormandík) with a portrait of Elena Maróthy Šoltésová on the obverse, and the name of the recipient and the year of the award on the reverse. The award is not associated with a financial reward.
The organizers reserve the right to revoke the award at any time if it is proven that the reasons for which the award was granted were not truthful, or if the laureate acts or has acted contrary to the principles for which the award was granted.

7. Announcement of the Laureate and Presentation of the Award
The organizers announce the laureate and present the award on the occasion of World Social Work Day (15 March).
