Miloslav Hetteš has become the new president of the International Council for Social Welfare in Europe (ICSW Europe - International Council on Social Welfare) for the next two years. It is the first time in history that this post is taken over by a representative from Central Europe. In this post, he succeeded his French predecessor Christian Rollet, former rector of a prestigious French school of public health. Doc. RNDr. Miloslav Hetteš, CSc. works at the University of St. Elizabeth University of Health and Social Work in Bratislava.
ICSW brings together organisations and citizens worldwide who strive for social development and social peace. It is a long-established non-governmental organisation representing international, national, and local organisations engaged in social development, social security, and social justice. ICSW was founded in 1928 in Paris. Its headquarters are in Kampala, Uganda. Its European organisation will be based from June 2014 in Bratislava. ICSW has an advisory status with the UN, UNESCO, ILO, Council of Europe, and EU institutions. It has permanent representation in these international organisations. For Slovakia, the member of ICSW Europe is the Permanent Conference of Third-Sector Organisations, represented by M. Hetteš. ICSW closely cooperates with the International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW) and the International Association of Schools of Social Work (IASSW).
A major event for ICSW in 2014 is the joint organisation (with IFSW and IASSW) of an international conference, "Social Work, Education, and Social Development", held on 9 – 12 July 2014 in the city of Melbourne, Australia. (More at http://www.swsd2014.org/)
