Today, migration is a highly polarizing topic that divides societies and wins or loses electoral battles for political candidates. It is not itself a "problem" to be solved, nor is it a "solution" to other problems we already have. What is needed instead are political and legislative structures that create effective tools to manage migration so that it is as beneficial as possible for all parties involved.
Deficiencies in this area are obvious – and lead not only to negative political and economic impacts in the countries of origin and destination, but also bring human suffering at the level of individual migrants and their families.
