We bring you in PDF a collection of contributions from the 1st year of the conference "Health Psychology - Year 1?", which was held in 2006 in Bratislava. Processor: PhDr. Dušan Selko, CSc., MPH Editor's Note Dear colleagues - those interested in health psychology (PZ), you have in your hands the proceedings of the first official conference of the Health Psychology section of the Slovak Psychological Society at the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Slovakia, which took place on May 3, 2006 in the premises of the Institute of Education and Services in Bratislava. Personally, this fact satisfies me also because I am aware that the Slovak psychological community has certain long-standing obligations in this area.
The original intention was oriented towards the main thematic areas: 1. Where is health psychology headed in Slovakia? 2. What does health psychology offer psychologists? 3. Current state of teaching health psychology in Slovakia; 4. Possibilities of application in individual areas and vary.
Although the presented collection is not comprehensive, it documents the current efforts, efforts and orientation of colleagues and individual workplaces from different parts of Slovakia to defend their professional position, in this, even for most psychologists, a difficult period of development of our society. The variety of topics presented, the scope and quality of the lectures compared to our colleagues from the Czech Republic, who have more than 19 years of tradition of organizing PZ conferences, convinced us that we do not need to be ashamed.
According to renowned experts in the field of public health and public health, one of the most important benefits of the specialization to which we apply is the salutogenetic model and the concept of psychological resistance in the broadest sense (whether in the sense of resilience, hardiness, sense of coherence, etc.). It also includes social support/support, which includes, among other things, collective, prosocial behavior, commitment, relationship to the community, community way of life. Although it appears to be a real fact that psychologists themselves have a rather reserved / indifferent / dismissive / conservative attitude towards this construct (category of health and quality of life) in practice.
One of our broader goals was and remains the effort to create a tradition, a discussion forum for the meeting of experts, the exchange of experiences that have an impact on both theory and practice, to shed more light and improve the awareness of those interested in the issue of health psychology.
The following years will hopefully show whether this effort was correct and crowned with success.
We leave it up to the reader to consider and evaluate whether our intention was successful or not. Even under the pressure of arguments and presented works, we have to correct some provocative statements in previous presentations with satisfaction - PZ in Slovakia will definitely not be Cinderella.
We believe that the relative lack of interest in this topic belongs to the past here. The fact that there is a growing interest in PZ among academic officials and clinicians - non-psychologists, especially at the faculties of public health, nursing and social work, is gratifying. It is questionable whether we are ready to satisfy this level of interest.
On behalf of the implementation team, I express the wish that we meet more often and in larger numbers in the future, again in May 2007 at the latest.
