Saturday's strong earthquake in Nepal claimed at least 3,600 lives, according to the latest reports. The Red Cross in Nepal and around the world responded immediately, the Slovak Red Cross will also provide assistance.

More than 1,500 volunteers and 300 employees of the Nepal Red Cross are working tirelessly in the middle of the still-shaking territory and helping the survivors - providing first aid, psychosocial support, distributing aid in evacuation centers and on the streets. In cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross, they help establish contact between family members who lost contact with each other as a result of the earthquake. The Nepal Red Cross Blood Bank in Kathmandu is also available to hospitals in the capital. The International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent (MFČK/ČP) has launched an emergency appeal in the preliminary amount of 33.4 million Swiss francs, which should provide help and support for approximately 75,000 residents over the next 18 months. The MFČK/ČP emergency fund has currently approved the sum of 500,000 Swiss francs for immediate assistance. At the same time, the MFČK/ČP sends teams of experts in the field of healthcare, logistics, telecommunications, etc. to support the work of the Nepalese ČK.

The Slovak Red Cross allocated an amount of 2,000 euros from its People to People fund to help the people of Nepal, which will be sent to the account of the International Federation of ČK/ČP.
