INTRODUCTION
Dear readers, the publication you are holding in your hands is one of the outputs of the VEGA project (1/0596/10) entitled Choices of life strategies of residents of poor and socially excluded Roma settlements. The research project was carried out in 2010 and 2011, and this collection contains analyzes and interpretations of the interviews conducted as part of it. Our goal is to disseminate the research results so that they reach all interested parties and contribute to clarifying the life situations and decision-making of poor residents of Roma settlements.
The collection contains five studies that are based on our empirical findings and one "theoretical" one - its author is Alena Rochovská, and in her contribution she presents the theories and research that inspired us when constructing our findings. In Jurina Rusnáková's study, you will find brief information about the project, the characteristics and selection of municipalities and participants, as well as an analysis of the management of the surveyed households. The contribution of Vladimír Klein and Lenka Jalilah Hrušková focuses on the education and training of Roma, Mária Hamráčková analyzed the field of employment. In her study, Marianna Šramková explains the importance and functioning of aid networks, and Peter Pollák focused on monitoring the specifics of the Roma and their influence on life strategies. As in the research itself, we also tried a multidisciplinary approach here - that is why in the texts you will find reflections of sociological, psychological, romological and pedagogical theories as well as a connection to social work and social policy.
We thank everyone who was helpful in the implementation of the project, despite the fact that they did not belong to the solving team. Thanks also to all the solvers.
