The publication by Mgr. Ján Hučík, PhD. and Mgr. Alena Hučíková is an exceptional text, the first of its kind since 1989 describing case study in social work at a level acceptable to both the professional public and students. The multidisciplinary approach and the authors' long-term experience in working with at-risk clients are particularly appealing. After the controversial years of development of social work as a scientific discipline, the authors have built upon authors such as Richmond and Robinson, who are among the pioneers of casework in social work. doc. Working with a social client requires constant searching for new alternatives and approaches in solving clients' social problems. Case study seminars, organized in pre-graduate and post-graduate training of social workers, are an essential part of improving this assistance. Since in Slovakia there has been no systematically organized aid for educators, nor for social workers and students in the field of social work, it is most gratifying for me to become acquainted with the monograph by authors Ján Hučík - Alena Hučíková titled Case Study in Social Work. After a long period of lackluster attempts and experiments by some educators in organizing case study seminars, the monograph offers a professional and highly qualified impetus for improving the professional training of social workers and their individual activities in working with clients.
