The main topic of the monograph is the history of social work, its theories, and methods. It deals not only with the history of social work itself but also with its relationships. At the beginning, attention is devoted to defining aid as a basic category of social work, or as its function. Through aid itself, the text of the monograph then focuses on the period of development of social work. The treatment of the topic begins with modern history, when social work began to be provided on a basis of experience, from which the discipline itself—social work—was formed. Through the history of social work—both as an activity and as its theories and methods—the text demonstrates the place of social work as a science and, at the same time, presents evidence of its existence as a science. In the final part, attention is paid to the contemporary understanding of social work as a science and then to its methodology.
