Foreword The issue of risks in contemporary society is almost ubiquitous. Many great thinkers in the field of social sciences talk directly about risk society (Beck), others talk about the same thing indirectly. Giddens also considers the current family as a "risk", which is no longer the institution to which we would turn with confidence and with the requirement to ensure risks. On the contrary, it itself becomes a risk that must be calculated in advance. This happens, for example, to the fact that we calculate how much it will cost us to raise our own child... The leading Czech sociologist Miloslav Petrusek worked hard and even compiled the encyclopedic work "Society of Late Times" (2007), in which he lists more than a hundred adjectives that appear in connection with the current state of societies in Western civilization. The intention of the creators of the international conference VII. The purpose of the Hradec Social Work Days, the outputs of which you are currently holding in the form of conference proceedings, was to give space to individual participants to express themselves spontaneously on their subjective perception of the key concepts of this conference. For example the theme of the first section of the conference "risks in social work in the late modern era" gives room for very diverse conceptions of what that "late" era actually is. Let the participants of the conference "label" or "label" our contemporary society themselves. We judge that the number of heads, the number of "late times" concepts. When choosing topics for all sections of the conference, we tried to proceed in such a way as to deliberately avoid the term "postmodern", since in this case it may be one of the partial manifestations of the "late" period.
Questions of the rapid changes of the times leave few people calm, hence the excess and perhaps even overuse of the term "risk" nowadays. And again, how many authors, so many different ideas about the possible risks of today and their reflection in the field of social work. Therefore, in other sections of the conference, the participants expressed their views on topics related to "risks of social work as a profession", in which they tried to understand a very difficult topic, the topic of "identity of social work as a profession". In the next thematic branch of the conference, the authors comment on the topic "risk in education in the field of social work" and thus grasp the issue and name the specifics of the relationship between theory and practice in the field of social work.
The anthology follows the logic outlined here and is therefore divided into three main parts, which are preceded by the main introductory article written by Libor Musil, which becomes a theoretical introduction to the issue of possible futures of the field of social work. His text comments on the possibilities and perspectives of social work in contemporary society and identifies three theoretical currents of thought that can shed light on the field and its legitimacy in contemporary society. However, let's be inspired together by a number of other concepts of possibilities and risks that the future is probably preparing for us.
