The mutual relationship between theory and practice is of interest to theoreticians and practitioners in all disciplines, but it acquires special importance in the helping professions, where, since the middle of the 20th century, we can alternately encounter the attempt to understand theory as a force determining the action and direction of practice, and also with the argument that in this relationship, practice is the dominant element. The theory is then understood as a description of practice enriched with elements explaining the causes of practical problems and indicating the future development of the profession. Oba přístupy nevytvářejí efektivní rámec pro rozvoj ani jedné, či druhé oblasti. The organizers of the conference, held in the context of the Hradec Social Work Days, assess the deepening split between the theory and practice of social work as undesirable. Therefore, the eighth year of the international scientific conference, which took place on October 7 and 8, 2011 under the title From theory to practice, from practice to theory, was dedicated to the relationship between theory and practice in social work.
The output of this conference comes to you in the form of an extensive conference proceedings, which captures the contributions of theoreticians, practitioners and students of social work that have passed the review process. VIII. The year of the international scientific conference was interesting not only with a record number of participants, both academics and practitioners from the Czech and Slovak Republics, active speakers and discussants, but also with the extensive international participation of experts from Germany, Poland, Switzerland, Lithuania and Latvia. Jednacím jazykem konference byla čeština, angličtina a slovenština.
V úvodní části vědeckého sborníku je zařazen hlavní referát doc. PhDr. Pavla Navratil, Ph. D. on the topic Precarity of theories in social work in the late modern era, which introduced and anchored the subsequent discussions on different levels of the relationship between theory and practice of social work. Sborník je následně rozdělen do šesti stěžejných částí, mapující témata jednotlivých sekcí konference. První sekci s názvem Význam teorie pro praxi sociální práce – reflektování praxe v teorii sociální práce moderovali prof. PhDr. Jana Levická, PhD., doc. PhDr. Pavel Navrátil, Ph.D. and doc. PhDr. Adéla Mojžíšová, Ph.D. 18 papers were presented in this section. The second section, moderated by Mgr. Radka Janebová, Ph.D., doc. PhDr. Beata Balogová, Ph.D. and PhDr. Ladislav Vaska, Ph.D. dealt with the issue of Reflection of the practice of social work through research - why is research useful for the practice of social work, and 14 contributions were made in it. The third section also dealt with questions of the use of research in social work under the title Reflection of the practice of social work through research - how to understand and influence practice with the help of research, 12 discussants spoke in this section. The work in the section was moderated by prof. PhDr. Eva Žiaková, CSc., PhDr. Martin Smutek, Ph.D. and PhDr. Eva Dragomirecká, PhD. Diskusi v čtvrté sekci pod názvem Co teorie nenabízí praxi, moderovali Mgr. Zuzana Truhlářová, PhD., doc. PhDr. Emilie Janigová, PhD and Mgr. Miroslav Kappl, PhD. Do diskuse se v této sekci zapojilo 17 účastníků konference. Práci v páté sekci Teorie a praxe sociální práce v mezinárodním kontextu moderovali prof. dr. dr. h.c. Detlef Baum, doc. PhDr. Markéta Rusnáková, PhD. and Mgr. Jan Hloušek. Konferenčním jazykem této sekci byl anglický jazyk a aktivně se do jej práce zapojilo 11 přednášejících. Mgr. Martina Macková, Ph.D., doc. PhDr. Eva Mydlíková, PhD. and doc. PhDr. Jan Lašek, CSc. moderovali šestou sekci – Rodina jako objekt teorie a praxe sociální práce. Do této sekci sa s aktivní účastí zapojilo 17 účastníků konferencie.
Členové vědeckého a organizačního výbor VIII. year of the international scientific conference Hradec Social Work Days, 2011 thank all the participants of the conference for creating a creative scientific discussion that contributed to the convergence of the theory and practice of social work and at the same time invite the participants to the IX. ročník konference, která se bude konat 21. 9. a 22. 9. 2012 v Hradci Králové.
