The fourth supplemented edition of selected texts from social counseling for social workers, social educators, psychologists and other professionals in the helping professions.
INTRODUCTION
"Good day", greeted the sick little prince. "Hello," said the computer. It was a modern computer programmed to make a complete diagnosis. "Why are you asking me instead of the doctor?" asked the sick little prince. "Because I'll save the doctor a lot of time. The experts have calculated it. I'll save the doctor a hundred and fifty-three minutes a day." "And what will the doctor do with these one hundred and fifty-three minutes?" "Whatever he wants..." If my doctor had a hundred and fifty-three minutes to spare, said the sick little prince, I would like him to talk to me for a moment. (R. Beerová: The Little Prince and the Computer)
You have before you the fourth supplemented edition of selected texts from social counseling for social workers, social educators, psychologists and other experts in the helping professions.
This edition is another, we think, more concentrated contribution to the field of work with social clients. The second, supplemented edition is also enriched with several ideas that we gained during discussions with our colleagues, but especially with students in the field of social work, along with pointing out their practical experience in the field of counseling and working with clients.
They are intended to help especially social workers in navigating the complex issue of social problems and show ways to help solve, or at least alleviate, the problems and suffering of our clients. Even for social workers and other professionals who will not specialize in social counseling, it is important to know the main methods of social counseling, types of clients, groups of social problems, because they can appear when solving problems in any position of the work of a helper. We tried to find a compromise that includes sufficient information, brevity and clarity. In addition to the theoretical definition of social counseling, we also present several cases of clients, which makes it possible to overcome the usual theoretical definition of social counseling.
We want to arouse in all future social counselors a personal interest in people's social problems, interpersonal relations and solving problems in life. The client in social counseling is not just a passive object of counseling, but becomes a partner in the counseling process. Try to keep this in mind while studying social counseling. It is important to realize how often people with social problems are stigmatized in our society. As if an unemployed, homeless, or drug addict is less valuable than another problem-free individual. Even the "socially stigmatized" individual has an inexpressible value, so it is not possible to reduce him only to the problems he is troubled with. The essential factor here is understanding.
We hope that we will succeed at least a little in the aim we are pursuing with this monograph. We wish everyone who will read these texts that they will find them a valuable and at the same time pleasant and comprehensible guide during study and in practice.

CONCLUSION
You have just finished reading the monograph by the authors Schavel - Oláh, which tried to give you a helping hand in studying and practicing as a social counselor. You probably won't immediately become a good social worker after reading it. However, you can achieve this goal mainly with practice. No publication can exhaust the entire issue, nor can it replace personal experience. However, it can be an aid in studying and preparing for practice. We hope that you found something in it that you were looking for or wanted to know. It is possible that your experience with clients is slightly different from what we have described. Nevertheless, we will be happy if you return to the publication repeatedly and work with it. We tried to summarize in it, based on our many years of theoretical and practical experience, recommendations that can help most current or future social counselors.
In the appendix, we offer you briefly described communication skills in clinical practice on several pages.
Try to be patient. You don't want everything from each other right away. Rather, proceed with gradual steps. Professionalism and skill are growing slowly but surely. When things don't go your way, don't get mad at yourself. Nobody is one hundred percent. Please try again. Mistakes are for your learning. Manage your time yourself so that it is divided between pleasant things and responsibilities, so that you do not burn out quickly. Don't be overwhelmed by worries. Indulge in as many of the most enjoyable activities as possible. You will thus become professionals whom clients will like to visit.
