The aim of the lecture is to analyze the historical and procedural origins of the Code of Ethics of the Social Worker and Social Work Assistant of the Slovak Republic (2015), its theoretical and terminological concepts, to present the key values ​​and basic ethical principles contained in the code, as well as the discussed issues and prospects for the further development of the ethical debate. The author starts from the perspective of the editor of the document and a member of the professional team that prepared the code of ethics. From a scientific point of view, with the approval of the ethical code, the research goal was also fulfilled praxeologically. However, in 2015, the Scientific Grant Agency of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic (Vega) approved a research project of a collective of workers under my leadership aimed at identifying the professional values ​​of social work in the Slovak Republic. It gave research in the field of professional ethics of social work a new research goal. The lecture was delivered during the period when the first stage of this research, based on the content analysis of 20 international and national ethical codes, was completed. The final part of the lecture therefore presents current reflections aimed at the creation of a new research tool for more scientifically accurate identification of the professional values ​​of social work in the conditions of the Slovak Republic and the perspective of further scientific work in this area.
