The 2nd international scientific conference entitled "Interdisciplinary cooperation in nursing, midwifery and social work" was held at the Faculty of Health of the Catholic University. The central theme of the conference was interdisciplinary care for seniors. The publication from this event aims to provide the general professional public with information about the results of scientific activity that contribute to the development of knowledge in the field of care for seniors in health and illness.
PREFACE
The last decades in the demographic development of European populations have led to relatively significant changes in their structure. The most common characteristic used for this development is the aging of the population. As the basic causes of this development, experts cite the decline in the birth rate and the extension of people's lives, which significantly change the map of the population by age groups. At the same time, these changes are a challenge to reevaluate the existing health, social and economic policies so that they respond more adequately to the emerging socio-demographic structure in the country in the future. The governments of individual countries are developing various measures for the social protection of the elderly as well as measures to respect their human, civil and political rights. In general, these measures can be seen in improving the quality of health care by introducing new treatment technologies, necessary social services, which are necessary to ensure a dignified life in the family and in society.
Due to the mentioned facts, the 2nd international scientific conference Interdisciplinary cooperation in nursing, midwifery and social work was held at the Faculty of Health of the Catholic University. The central theme of the conference was interdisciplinary care for seniors. The publication from this event aims to provide the general professional public with information about the results of scientific activity that contribute to the development of knowledge in the field of care for seniors in health and in illness from a bio-psycho-social and spiritual aspect. Authors from Slovakia and the Czech Republic contributed to the publication.

Department of Nursing of the Faculty of Health of the Catholic University in Ružomberok emerged in 2002 as one of the first departments of the then Institute of Health and Social Work at the Faculty of Education of the Catholic University in Ružomberok. The department prepares future nurses as part of theoretical and practical teaching in the field of nursing since 2002 in the bachelor's study program, since 2005 in the master's study program and since 2011 also in the doctoral study program. Currently, the department employs professors, associate professors, assistant professors and assistants who, in addition to teaching, take part in the solution of scientific projects, engage in publishing activities at home and abroad, participate in teacher mobility at partner universities abroad, and in cooperation with students participate in numerous extracurricular activities, especially in the city of Ružomberok and its surroundings. The Department of Nursing closely cooperates in ensuring students' professional practice with the Central Military Hospital SNP - faculty hospital in Ružomberok, home nursing care agencies, as well as general practitioners' clinics for children and adolescents and for adults.
