The close connection of higher education with practical professional activity is one of the priorities of the University of Health and Social Work of St. Elizabeth in Bratislava. Detached workplace Dr. P. Blahu in Skalica is trying to apply this priority in the relatively young study and professional field of social work. One of the most suitable areas where social work theory and practice meet is social services. In them, university-educated social workers try to apply their knowledge to clinical social work. Their suggestions and practical experience are extremely important for researchers and educators in social work.
The conference Social services in the region wants to be an opportunity for communication and exchange of experiences of clinical social workers and academic specialists. More than a hundred registered participants testify to the need for such a dialogue. The presented collection of papers from the conference can be an integral part of this dialogue. In it, readers will find contributions thematically focused on various aspects of social services. Attention is paid to the education of social workers, philosophical aspects of social services, supervision and counseling. Several contributions are also devoted to the quality of the provision of social services. Considering the specific target groups, in the collection you will read about penitentiary and post-penitentiary care, social counseling in excluded Roma communities, socialization in work with mentally disabled clients, further in social work with clients with Alzheimer's disease, with older people. Attention is also paid to community work, volunteering and experiences from history. We believe that the conference and the presented collection will be an inspiration for readers and a way to further dialogue.
