The mission of the Slovak Public Health Association (SAVEZ) is to participate in the prevention of diseases, protection and promotion of the health of the inhabitants of Slovakia. The association works to increase interest and understanding in the field of public health through education, training and research; in the area of cooperation, it supports an interdisciplinary and interdepartmental approach.
One of the activities with which SAVEZ strives to fulfill its mission is the organization of conferences. We bring you a peer-reviewed collection of contributions from the 3rd conference with international participation, which was held in Košice in 2009 under the title "Health in all policies". Preface
On May 21-22, 2009, the 3rd conference of the Slovak Public Health Association with international participation was held in Košice under the title "Health in all policies". The conference was attended by representatives of state institutions, non-governmental organizations and communities, as well as invited foreign guests from Denmark, the Netherlands, the USA and Great Britain. Co-organizers of the conference were: Office of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Slovakia, University of P.J. Šafárika in Košice - Kosice Institute for Society and Health, Section of Health Psychology at SPS SAV, Filia n. o. and Stop smoking, o.z.
The main goal of the conference was to present and discuss those determinants of health that affect the health of the population and are regulated by sectors other than the health sector. At the same time, the conference wanted to contribute to the improvement of interdepartmental communication and to support such directions of mutual cooperation that will contribute to the improvement of the health of the population.
At the conference, there were 7 main lectures, 28 lectures in six sections and 15 posters were presented. Lectures and poster presentations were included in the conference program based on the previous assessment of abstracts by members of the scientific committee of the conference. The conference also included a pre-conference workshop focused on "problem-based learning" (PBL) and also a working meeting of the WHO national team of the HBSC study (Health Behavior in School Aged Children).
The CD collection contains contributions from the main speakers and contributions from individual sections, including the poster section. Individual sections were thematically oriented to: socioeconomic inequalities in health, working conditions and health, chronic diseases, environmental health and health psychology.
