This volume with contributions from the conference Piešťanský day of nursing, first volume, organized by Slovenské liečebné kúpele Piešťany, a.s. in cooperation with Vysoká škola zdravotníctva a sociálnej práce sv. Alžbety, n.o. Bratislava, the detached branch of bl. Sáry Salkaháziová in Rožňava and the Institute of St. John N. Neumann, Příbram, Czech Republic, took place on 12–13 November 2015.
Dear colleagues, this volume with contributions from the national conference with international participation, Piešťanský day of nursing, first edition, organized by Slovenské liečebné kúpele Piešťany, a.s. in cooperation with Vysoká škola zdravotníctva a sociálnej práce sv. Alžbety, n.o. Bratislava, the detached branch of bl. Sáry Salkaháziová in Rožňava and the Institute of St. John N. Neumann, Příbram, Czech Republic on 12–13 November 2015 presents various perspectives and views in the field of multicultural nursing and specificities in providing nursing care in spa treatment based on international experience. The central theme of the conference, “Nursing Across Cultures,” created space for the exchange of knowledge, experience and research results.
Globalization and migration are concepts that have also entered nursing. We live and work in a multicultural society where nurses must be able to address specific nursing issues of members of different cultures.
The conference was also intended for students of the nursing study program to gain new knowledge. The quality of nursing care is based on meeting patients’ individual needs, and therefore it is important that nurses have the necessary knowledge and understanding, learn to provide high-quality nursing care to patients of other cultures and ethnicities, with different needs and priorities, and respect their specificities.
We value all contributions and thank the authors for their cooperation. On behalf of the conference organizing committee, I would like to express the conviction that this proceedings volume will meet interest and that, with its focus, it will also be a useful aid in postgraduate education.
