The proceedings collect contributions that were presented at the nationwide conference with international participation, Piešťanský deň ošetrovateľstva, which was held on 21.-22 April 2016 and organized by Slovenské liečebné kúpele Piešťany, a. s. in cooperation with Vysokou školou zdravotníctva a sociálnej práce sv. Alžbety, n.o. Bratislava, the detached workplace of bl. Sáry Salkaháziovej in Rožňava, the Ústavom sv. Jana N. Neumanna, Příbram, Czech Republic, and Univerzitou Pavla Jozefa Šafárika, Lekárskou fakultou, Ústavom ošetrovateľstva Košice.
Dear colleagues, the proceedings with contributions presented at the nationwide conference with international participation, Piešťanský deň ošetrovateľstva, organized by Slovenské liečebné kúpele Piešťany, a. s. in cooperation with Vysokou školou zdravotníctva a sociálnej práce sv. Alžbety, n.o. Bratislava, the detached workplace of bl. Sáry Salkaháziovej in Rožňava, the Ústavom sv. Jana N. Neumanna, Příbram, Czech Republic, and Univerzitou Pavla Jozefa Šafárika, Lekárskou fakultou, Ústavom ošetrovateľstva Košice, offers an overview of the history and changes in nursing and spa care. The central theme of the conference was traditions and perspectives in nursing reflected in multicultural spa care and the quality of nursing care provided.
Participants at the conference on the international level presented their views on the topics, their own knowledge, experience, and research results, and the broad range of conference topics indicates the relevance, as well as a qualitative shift in the view that history must be drawn upon, changes should be monitored, and theory linked with practice and research.
Nursing as a scientific field and nursing practice, as well as spa care, are also subject to global globalization. It is necessary to follow the new trends brought by this phenomenon and to continuously adapt to new requirements. As early as 1960, Professor Leiningerová visionarily predicted that nursing care and culture must be meaningfully interconnected because increased migration in the 21st century will create a need for knowledge in caring for individuals with cultural differences.
The conference was intended not only for nurses in practice, but also for students of nursing study programs and non-physician healthcare workers, with the goal of exchanging scientific and practical knowledge and information. It is important for all of us to honor traditions, know how to draw from history, anticipate perspectives, and provide patients with high-quality nursing care through the implementation of new trends.
We value all contributions and thank their authors for their cooperation. On behalf of the conference organizing committee, I would like to express the conviction that the ideas heard by participants at the conference will continue to be transmitted, presented, and become topics for many professional discussions through this proceedings volume and be applied in nursing practice and education.
