This is the collection of scientific papers from the conference titled Health – the driving force of nursing without borders in PDF, which was held in Piešťany in 2018.
At a certain point, often at a certain age, we all feel that we are immortal. And then? Then we fall ill and for health we would happily trade nearly everything... Health is the most important and most valuable asset of human life. Health or robust health is something we mutually wish each other at various celebrations, whether personal, life-related, or connected with the New Year or the birth of a child.
Health is generally recognized in society as an indicator of its advancement in healthcare, the economy, politics and culture. In the contributions of this scientific proceedings volume, we have tried to provide readers with so-called health literacy, which can be understood as the ability of individuals to obtain, process and understand information and situations related to health and/or the healthcare system and to be able to make appropriate decisions in these situations. Health literacy is one of the factors that shape attitudes toward health and lead individuals to healthy behavior.
The understanding of the concept of health depends on the society in which a person lives, on the cultural environment, is linked to education and a person’s value system, and from this arise expectations regarding healthcare and nursing care as well. Health and people’s behavior cannot be separated from each other. Health is to a large extent indeed in “our hands”; it is one of the basic metaparadigms and is the driving force of nursing without borders.
In this peer-reviewed scientific proceedings, contributions of a professional and scientific nature by authors from Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Austria, thematically focused on health, spa nursing care and quality in nursing practice, are published. The compilers of the proceedings—editor, reviewers and authors—offer the professional public, healthcare workers from various clinical disciplines, but also nursing students with useful knowledge, advice and experience. The selection of scientific works is the result of nursing scientific research activity of nurses working in academic settings and clinical practice.
