PREFACE
Dear conference participants, we would like to welcome you to Ružomberok at the 1st all-Slovak conference with international participation "New trends in the education and practice of nursing and midwifery", organized by the Central Military Hospital of the SNP - Faculty Hospital in Ružomberok. The co-organizer is the Faculty of Health Sciences of the Catholic University in Ružomberok, the Slovak Chamber of Nurses and Midwives, under the auspices of the city of Ružomberok.
The aim of the conference is to develop new knowledge in nursing, midwifery and laboratory investigation methods. We tried to prepare an overview of the issues of the selected area in the form of lectures and at the same time leave enough space for discussion.
The organizing committee thanks all the participants of the conference for their interest in this current topic, the organizers for supporting the conference and the sponsors for their financial participation. We look forward to meeting you at an informal social dinner.

Department of Nursing of the Faculty of Health of the Catholic University in Ružomberok emerged in 2002 as one of the first departments of the then Institute of Health and Social Work at the Faculty of Education of the Catholic University in Ružomberok. The department prepares future nurses as part of theoretical and practical teaching in the field of nursing since 2002 in the bachelor's study program, since 2005 in the master's study program and since 2011 also in the doctoral study program. Currently, the department employs professors, associate professors, assistant professors and assistants who, in addition to teaching, take part in the solution of scientific projects, engage in publishing activities at home and abroad, participate in teacher mobility at partner universities abroad, and in cooperation with students participate in numerous extracurricular activities, especially in the city of Ružomberok and its surroundings. The Department of Nursing closely cooperates in ensuring students' professional practice with the Central Military Hospital SNP - faculty hospital in Ružomberok, home nursing care agencies, as well as general practitioners' clinics for children and adolescents and for adults.
