Population ageing, the increase in chronic or lifestyle diseases, and the emergence of new infectious diseases call for innovative approaches to population health care. Among the most significant are the promotion of health literacy and the implementation of preventive measures targeting the most common risk factors such as improper and insufficient nutrition, physical activity, and the building of interdisciplinary teams, or the effective cooperation of their individual members.
These areas were also the central themes of the international scientific-professional conference held at the Fakulta zdravotníctva Katolíckej Univerzity v Ružomberku on 4.12.2024 under the title Current Problems of Nursing Practice in the Context of Interdisciplinary Cooperation.
In the individual contributions, of which there were 40 in total, not only the results of the KEGA projects no. 010KU-4/2022 Implementation of Elements Promoting Health Literacy of the Adult Population into Education in the Field of Nursing and no. 009KU 4/2022 Nutrition and Physical Activity as the Basic Pillars of Care for At-Risk Patients were presented, but also the results of research and experience from clinical practice presented by lecturers from other educational institutions and by health professionals from various fields (physiotherapy, nursing, internal medicine, geriatrics, public health). The international character of the conference was supported by joint outputs in which the co-authors were university teachers from the Slovak and Czech Republics and from Poland.
A summary of the data and information of the presented contributions is contained in the proceedings. The individual abstracts offer the most important results concerning health and communication literacy, interdisciplinary cooperation in the care of seniors (above all in the prevention and treatment of geriatric syndromes, in the support of nutrition and physical activity), oncology patients, patients after suffering an acute stroke, and patients in palliative and hospice care. There are also processed findings from practice concerning current problems such as nosocomial infections, the onset of postoperative delirium in geriatric patients, the insertion of central and peripheral venous accesses, and the risk behaviour of community members.
Through its content, the proceedings thus offer a broad spectrum of information that can be a source of knowledge for professionals—health workers and workers in the helping professions—as well as for students in the fields of Nursing, Physiotherapy, Public Health, and Social Work.
